Trucking company owner pleads guilty in Hired Truck scandal

Another trucking company owner has pleaded guilty for his involvement in Chicago’s Hired Truck scandal, making him the 21st guilty plea in the ongoing investigation.

John E. Cannatello, owner of GNA Trucking, pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud on Thursday, July 21. According to the Chicago Tribune, Cannatello – a former Palos Township Democratic committeeman – said his company made more than $325,000 in revenue from the program.

Cannatello admitted to spending more than $10,000 in cash and campaign contributions to pay off city officials in exchange for work with the program.

Cannatello will be sentenced Sept. 26. His wife, Nicola, still faces charges of mail fraud and making false statements.
