Feds roll outWeb site targeting 'rogue' movers

People hiring a mover now have a new way to check the background of the company they are paying to move their possessions.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration today announced a new Web site, www.protectyourmove.gov, to help people avoid getting caught in a scam that could lead to their household goods being held hostage by a “rogue” mover. Rogue movers offer lowball estimates and then demand more money than originally agreed upon – which is in violation of federal regulations.

The Web site provides a list of properly registered and insured movers, brokers and freight forwarders, details about regulations governing professional moving companies, information about how to file a complaint in the event of a problem and moving tips.
