A suspect has been arrested in the June 2004 murder of OOIDA member David Guckes.

Edward Garry Jones, 39, of Portage, MI, was arrested May 9 and arraigned May 11 on one open count of murder and one count of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to The Kalamazoo Gazette.

Guckes, 40, was found buried beneath debris. He had been shot, stabbed multiple times and beaten, Lt. Terry VanStreain of the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department told The Gazette.

Guckes, an owner-operator leased to Hall Brothers Transportation Co. Inc., was last seen June 18, 2004, and reported missing a day later to the Portage Police Department.

Jones had been sought by police and was arrested May 9 on an unrelated charge. However, when questioned by police about Guckes’ death “some of the pieces fell together.”

Police are still investigating the trucker’s death and are seeking one or more additional suspects. Anyone with information may call (269) 383-8821.
