Rainer E. Schmueckle, 45, president and CEO of Portland, OR-based Freightliner Trucks, will leave his position to become chief operating officer of the Mercedes Car Group, the companies announced recently.

Both firms are part of DaimlerChrysler AG. The announcement came April 2, a day after Schmueckle conducted Freightliner’s annual press conference at the Mid America Trucking Show in Louisville, KY. He will start in his new job April 15.

Chris Patterson, 50, will take over for Schmueckle at Freightliner. He previously held the position of senior vice president for service and parts at Freightliner LLC.
