Highway and transit funding bill approved in committee

| 3/3/2005

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved the $284 billion highway and transit funding bill – formally titled “The Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users” – March 2.

The bill authorizes:

  • $225.5 billion for the Federal Highway Administration;
  • $52.3 billion for the Federal Transit Administration;
  • $3.2 billion for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; and
  • $2.9 billion for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

The committee approved the bill – which funds fiscal years 2005-2009 – on a voice vote, according to Transportation Weekly.

The bill, HR3, is expected to make it to the House floor early next week. The House Rules Committee will probably make an announcement setting a deadline early next week for members to submit amendments they might want to offer to HR3 to the Rules Committee for consideration, Transportation Weekly reported. The Rules Committee will probably meet next Tuesday or Wednesday to consider which amendments to HR3 the House will be allowed to consider.
