Illinois lawmakers are considering a bill that would require any teenager applying for a driver’s permit to be tested for controlled substances, including marijuana.

Introduced by Rep. Roger L. Eddy, R-Hutsonville, the bill, HB159, would make teens under 18 applying for an instruction permit pay a fee and undergo the test.

The House Transportation and Motor Vehicles Committee has scheduled a hearing on the bill for 2 p.m. CST Feb. 16 in Room 114 of the Capitol Building in Springfield, IL.
