National diesel prices up slightly during Christmas week

The national average U.S. retail price of diesel fuel rose slightly to $1.987 from the previous average of $1.984, the Department of Energy reported Dec. 27.

During Christmas week, the highest prices in the nation were in California, where the average cost of diesel rose from $2.087 last week to $2.097.

Fuel prices dropped in New England to $2.196 and were down in the Central Atlantic, where the average price was $2.161; and in the Lower Atlantic where the average price was $1.982.

In the Midwest, it was a different story. Average retail of diesel rose to $1.959 from last week’s price of $1.944. In the Gulf Coast region, retail prices increased to $1.928 from $1.922.

In the Rocky Mountain region, average diesel per gallon fell to$1.961, down from $1.988 during the week of Dec. 20. On the West Coast, prices continue to slip to $2.040, down from $2.047 during the week of Dec. 20 and $2.097 during the week of Dec. 13.
