Founder and namesake to step down at J.B. Hunt

J.B. Hunt, the founder of the motor carrier that bears his name, will retire from his position as senior chairman and a member of the company’s board of directors Dec. 31, the company announced recently.

Hunt, 77, founded the company in 1961.

Also retiring Dec. 31 is Gene George, 82, an original investor and founding director of the company.

Hunt said in a statement that his wife and son would remain on the board to represent his family’s interests in the company.

J.B. Hunt Transport Services, based in Lowell, AR, is a truckload carrier with nearly 10,000 tractors in its fleet operating in the United States, Canada and Mexico, as well as numerous leased owner-operators.
