Fog leads to massive pileup of trucks, cars in California

Fog along Interstate 5 near Sacramento, CA, Dec. 15 lead to a series of pileups that involved more than 24 vehicles, media outlets reported.

The largest of the wrecks involved six tractor-trailers and nine cars.

Centered on a bridge that officials say is known for heavy fog, the large wreck led to several smaller collisions. The series of incidents occurred about 9 a.m. Dec. 15 just north of the Sacramento River bridge, and closed the highway in both directions while officials investigated and started to clean up.

Southbound I-5 did not open again until that afternoon. No one was seriously injured or killed in the incident.
