Cell phone companies Sprint and
Nextel could complete a merger by Wednesday, Dec. 15, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Reports have been circulating
since late last week about a possible merger of the companies. If a merger were
to occur, it would result in a massive wireless service provider, covering up
to 40 million cell phone users and combining the networks of the two companies.
The effect on everyday cell phone
users is not yet clear, although some observers noted that with fewer
competitors – and therefore, less competition – that higher prices could result.
