A truck slammed into semitrailer that had broken down on Interstate 80 in Hammond, IN, on Nov. 22, fatally crushing Willie Taylor, 50, of Chicago. Taylor was pinned between his own truck and another vehicle that had stopped to help.

The crash occurred in the westbound lanes of I-80, reported the Indianapolis Star. Local television news sources said other drivers were not injured.

According to the Star, Indiana State Police said Taylor pulled his truck onto the right shoulder and got out of the cab and waved to a second truck, which pulled over in front of Taylor’s rig.

Police said part of Taylor’s trailer was in the right lane and a third truck hit it, pinning him between the other two vehicles.
