The Silver Fox and his girl, Shirl, on the road to recovery

| Wednesday, September 29, 2004

Land Line columnist Pete Rigney, known in the trucking community as “The Silver Fox,” always said that he and his wife, Shirley, did everything together. But surely, he didn't plan for it to extend to simultaneous hospital stays. And if he could have planned it, they wouldn’t have been at two different hospitals.

Rigney was released this week from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salem, VA, where he was being treated for a large blood clot in his right leg. His wife, Shirley, is also back at home after a stay in the Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC, where she underwent triple bypass heart surgery on Sept. 15.

Rigney is a long time trucking journalist and has authored a regular column for Land Line Magazine, “Just the Other Day” since June 2002. Rigney attributes his blood clot as being the likely result of stress because of his wife's surgery.

“I over did it and wound up in the hospital myself,” said Rigney.

The Rigneys are back home in Martinsville, VA, and recovering.
