New Mexico, California warned of possible terror attacks

Law-enforcement officials in California and New Mexico have received a warning from the FBI that their states may be the target of possible terrorist activity, media outlets reported recently.

No specific targets or dates were listed in the warnings, which state officials said was based on “chatter” picked up by the federal agency. However, the warning did say that the FBI thought al Qaida was the group planning to attack.

Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge had said previously that the terrorist organization was planning attacks between now and the November election in an attempt to disrupt the election process in the United States.
