Transportation Safety Board dispatched a team of investigators Jan. 14
to the scene of a fatal tanker truck crash on Interstate 95 near Baltimore.
carrying a flammable liquid plunged off a highway overpass Jan. 13 and
exploded into a fiery mass atop other vehicles, killing at least four people,
landed in the northbound lane of I-95, just below the overpass carrying
the southbound lane of Interstate 895, police said. Two other tractor-trailers
and two passenger vehicles were involved in the crash.
police chief of the Maryland Transportation Authority, said the number
of those dead could rise, according to press reports. Police had no information
on the victims. I-95 was closed for four hours in both directions.
NTSB Chairman Ellen Engleman Conners announced that Kenneth Suydam would
lead a seven-member team of investigators.
