Stolen DOT truck prompts homeland security call

Authorities in Deland, FL, contacted the Department of Homeland Security after a marked Department of Transportation truck was stolen from a government maintenance yard, according to Local 6 News, serving Orange County, FL.

Detectives said someone broke into the DOT facility, jumped into a large asphalt pavement repair truck and plowed through the gates. A supervisor made the discovery of the missing truck Dec. 28.

Officials said it was the first theft of its kind in recent memory.

With the country on high terror alert, local authorities said they are not taking any chances and immediately notified the Department of Homeland Security in Tallahassee, FL, and began an investigation.

The 1995 Ford truck has the Department of Transportation emblem on both sides of the vehicle and the tag number 23963. If you have any information concerning the missing truck, you are urged to call the Deland Police Department.
