The DOT's Office of the Inspector General announced that Robert J. McClafferty, a truck driver for Ontelaunee Transport Services Inc. of Kempton, PA, was ordered by a U.S. District Court judge in Philadelphia to serve a 10-month prison sentence for making false statements in his driver’s daily logbook.

McClafferty is one of seven Ontelaunee truck drivers who pleaded guilty to falsifying the entries to conceal the fact that they were driving over the maximum number of hours allowed under FMCSA regulations, thereby jeopardizing public safety, the Inspector General said.

He pleaded guilty Sept. 8.

A federal grand jury in Philadelphia returned indictments against eight truck drivers, one trucking company and a dispatcher for making false statements about their driving hours to the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
