A truck driver from Fort Lauderdale has become the Florida Lottery's newest instant millionaire.

Donald Ritacco, 48, won $1 million in the Cash Spectacular scratch-off game. He redeemed his winning ticket Dec. 15 in the state capital, Tallahassee.

"There was only the clerk in the store, and I told him I won," Ritacco, who drives an 18-wheeler for Show Management of Fort Lauderdale, said. "I then called my wife to tell her the good news, and she didn't believe me until I showed her the ticket. … I kept the ticket glued to my side, until I came to the lottery office today."

Ritacco’s stepdaughter describes him as a habitual lottery player, according to a report in The Miami Herald.

''He's been buying them his whole life. This is just all the money he's spent on them,'' stepdaughter Kandice Marks told the newspaper.

The truck driver, who hauls boats and other equipment to boat shows, has no plans yet for how he will spend the money, the newspaper said. He will receive 20 payments of $50,000 each.
