After three-week rise, average diesel price slips

The average U.S. retail price of diesel fuel fell to $1.495 from the previous level of $1.502 a gallon, the Department of Energy reported Tuesday.

The highest average price is in California, at $1.627 a gallon.

Other average prices: the Central Atlantic region, where the price is $1.593; the West Coast, where the price is $1.573; the Rocky Mountain region, where the price is $1.535; in New England, where the price is $1.587; $1.498 in the Midwest; and $1.486 on the East Coast.

The lowest average prices are on the Gulf Coast, at $1.441; and in the Lower Atlantic region, at $1.431.
