No toll hike in Illinois in 2004

Highway tolls will not increase in Illinois next year, The Daily Herald reported Sept. 19.

Officials at the state’s tollway agency say the system can make it without the extra money. However, the newspaper reported, because the budget is tight, some new roadwork and reconstruction will be put off.

Some smaller projects, such as rebuilding on the East-West Tollway (I-88) from Route 59 to Naperville Road, will be done. That stretch, the newspaper said, is the worst in the tollway system.
