Gov. Jennifer Granholm has green-lighted 17 of 34 road construction
projects she delayed earlier this year.

billion state Transportation Department budget for the fiscal

a compromise between Republican lawmakers and the Democratic governor.
restored projects under SB265 include freeway interchange construction
in Oakland County and road work in the Grand Rapids, Saginaw Bay
and northern Lower Michigan areas.
plans to use $200 million raised through the sale of bonds to
pay for most of the road projects. Another $50 million will come
from other sources.
in the transportation budget, Granholm vetoed a provision that
would have required 20 percent of all federal highway bridge replacement
and rehabilitation program dollars to be used for repairs or replacing

of local road agencies, she couldn’t support diverting more than
$5.9 million from the agency’s road and bridge construction program
at this time.
