‘Spitting’ in the eye of technology

A Pennsylvania company has been selling a liquid for three years that blocks roadside cameras from recording license plate numbers.

“The Photo Blocker,” developed by Phantom Plate of Harrisburg, comes in a red aerosol can. The product was created out of anger over “Big Brother” cameras that enforce traffic laws and are appearing in a growing number of East Coast locations.

The company found a way to make license plates hyper-reflective, and, after much testing, they decided to go with the aerosol spritz. Phantom Plate has sold thousands of the $29.99 cans, which can cover up to six license plates, Scripps-Howard News Service reports.

Other companies sell clear plastic covers to obscure license plate numbers.
