Seventy-four percent of fleets polled by Columbus, OH,-based research firm CK Marketing & Communications in July said they planned to purchase power units sometime in the next six months.

The poll is conducted quarterly with both private and for-hire fleets for The Fleet Sentiment Report published by the company.

Forty-one percent of respondents said at least some of the purchases were to add fleet capacity.

The poll also asked whether companies would avoid purchasing new trucks in 2007, when stricter Environment Protection Agency rules governing diesel fuel take effect.

Thirty percent said they would avoid purchases in 2007, 26 percent said they would not, but 44 percent said they were undecided. Meanwhile, 48 percent of respondents said they planned to purchase trailers in the next six months.
