Southern Oregon highway bridge restriction in effect July 1

| 6/27/2003

Certain truckloads hauled along the southern Oregon coast will soon be restricted on a state highway bridge.

Starting July 1, the Isthmus Slough Bridge near Coos Bay on Oregon Highway 241 will be restricted to gross vehicle weights of 80,000 or less.

Currently, there is no detour route available to the bridge for loads exceeding 80,000 pounds, the Oregon Transportation Department said in a statement. The agency and Coos County are reviewing possible alternate routes for trucks over the posted weight.

Signs soon to be posted in the area will specify axle loading of 20,000 pounds per single axle, 34,000 pounds per tandem axle combination, and 80,000 pounds maximum gross vehicle weight.
