Kenworth re-ups as Trucker Buddy silver sponsor

For 10 years, Trucker Buddy International has been bringing the transportation industry into the classroom. Beginning with one driver writing to one class in Wisconsin, the program has grown to include more than 4,000 classes around the world.

From Japan to Saudi Arabia to South Africa, children are not only learning about trucks, but of the lifestyle of the drivers who have become their friends.

Since 1993, Trucker Buddy has been supported entirely by donations from those who believe in its mission, and Kenworth has been a contributor from the beginning. This year, Kenworth is again helping fund the program as a silver sponsor.

"Kenworth is pleased with the efforts that Trucker Buddy has made in bringing drivers into the classroom," said Steve Gilligan, general marketing manager for Kenworth. "While we have been affiliated with Trucker Buddy over the last 10 years, our respect of Trucker Buddy and the Trucker Buddy members has never been greater. Trucker Buddy’s objectives of positively impacting thousands of children annually through its pen pal program enhances the image of the trucking industry overall."

According to Trucker Buddy Executive Director Ellen Voie, the program could not continue without generous sponsors such as Kenworth and OOIDA.

“Corporate donors who appreciate the impact these drivers have on our future generation will find their contributions to the program invaluable,” Voie said.

“These children, their teachers and families are continually impressed with the driver’s dedication to helping educate the students,” she added. “As they are learning math, geography and social studies, their writing skills are further advanced, all while they are developing a friendship with their Trucker Buddy.”

Kenworth Truck Co., a division of PACCAR Inc., is a leading manufacturer of heavy- and medium-duty trucks.
