Truckin' for Kids Truck Drags set for September

| Monday, June 09, 2003

The 23rd annual Truckin’ for Kids Truck Drags and Show & Shine contest will kick off the drag-racing season Sept. 20-21 at the Los Angeles County Raceway in Palmdale, CA.

Truckin’ for Kids raises money for various children’s charities. The primary beneficiary of the 2003 show is the Children’s Center of the Antelope Valley, which aids abused children and provides counseling for the families of at-risk youth.

The annual event promises participants two full days of family fun. Saturday brings out the pickup trucks for drag racing. And there is a Show & Shine contest. There will be a big rig light show Saturday evening after a barbecue and entertainment.

The big rigs strut their stuff Sunday with a Show & Shine contest, working competitions, truck drags and super truck drags. Vendor booths and special exhibitions will be set up for viewing on both days.

Last year, Truckin’ for Kids raised more than $30,000 for the children’s charities. Since its inception, the all-volunteer committee has raised more than $500,000.
