Momentum building for June Safety Month

| Wednesday, April 16, 2003

Momentum continues to build for OOIDA Truck Safety Month, on the calendar for June.

"We are receiving letters and phone calls of support from not only OOIDA members, but truckers all over the nation," reports OOIDA Executive Vice President Todd Spencer. "We are also getting positive input from some motor carriers, brokers, law-enforcement officials, transportation management and lawmakers."

What is June Safety Month? On Nov. 1, 2002, the OOIDA board of directors voted to promote and sponsor the 30-day period for June 2003, during which all drivers are encouraged to operate in strict compliance with all laws and commercial vehicle safety regulations. It will coincide with the annual Roadcheck 2003, the nationwide commercial vehicle inspection week.

"Strict compliance will bring to light the true impact of all of the lost time and productivity truckers must try to overcome to deliver the nation's goods,” says Spencer. "With new rules soon to be announced and implemented in the next eight months, there is no better time to focus attention where it really needs to be focused.”

The association is encouraging all OOIDA members and Land Line subscribers to display support of Truck Safety Month. Truck decals, bumper stickers and window decals are among the items available for free from OOIDA's Membership Department and from the OOIDA display truck between now and June.
