North Dakota repeals nighttime speed limits

| 4/9/2003

If you drive any rural paved roads in North Dakota, you can now drive 65 mph since Gov. John Hoeven signed HB1046 in late March, removing the 55-mph nighttime speed limit on the state's two-lane highways where the daytime limit is 65 mph.

Local law-enforcement officials are concerned the new law will cause confusion on some highways where the speed limit is 55 mph during both daytime and nighttime. The new law does not affect these roadways.

The state's Department of Transportation has removed the old nighttime speed limit signs and posted new signs to avoid confusion.
