Florida panel gives stamp of approval to lane restriction

| Tuesday, April 01, 2003

Florida's House Transportation Committee has passed a bill to extend daytime lane restrictions on trucks to 24 hours a day.

Trucks traveling through Palm Beach County now are prohibited from I-95's left lane from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. HB497, a pilot project introduced by Rep. Irv Slosberg, D-Boca Raton, would extend the prohibition around the clock.

The two-year pilot project would not begin – and citations would not be issued to truckers – until signs are posted along the highway, according to information on the legislative Web site. The bill has been referred to five different committees and subcommittees. It passed the Subcommittee on Transportation Systems March 18 by a vote of 9-0, and passed the full Transportation Committee March 20 by a vote of 18-0.
