Truck gets biggest overweight fine ever in Michigan

A truck carrying factory equipment through Michigan has been given the largest fine for an overweight truck in the state’s history, The Adrian Daily Telegram reported March 13.

The truck was fined $57,685.

The New Jersey truck, which was bound for Ohio, weighed in at 480,000 pounds, about 320,000 pounds more than its legal weight. In addition, it was permitted for 16 feet wide, but it was 18 feet 2 inches wide, law-enforcement officials told the newspaper.

The driver of the truck was not identified. The previous record for such a fine in the state is $29,530.
