A Montana legislator is seeking passage of a bill to increase the speed limit from 65 mph to 70 mph on a portion of U.S. 93.

HB259, sponsored by Rep. Rick Maedje, R-Fortine, would boost the speed on U.S. 93 from Whitefish to the Canadian border.

The bill passed the House Feb. 3 by an 80 to 15 vote. It is in the Senate Highways and Transportation Committee. A public hearing on the measure is scheduled for March 18.
