Florida local toll road bill in committee

| Friday, March 07, 2003

HB257, which would create a transportation authority that could acquire property and take out bonds to fund new toll roads in the southwest part of the state, is now before several committees in the Legislature.

State Rep. Mike Davis, R-Naples, introduced the bill in February. According to a spokesman with his office, the bill is now in the Transportation Systems Committee. It has been referred to four committees and two subcommittees, but will not likely be voted on in all of them.

Under the bill, the authority would operate in Collier and Lee counties, which lie along the state’s gulf coast north of the Everglades.
