Legislative tracking resources: OOIDA gives you the tools to be involved

| Friday, February 21, 2003

One of OOIDA’s key functions is to monitor and report to the membership on legislation affecting small business truckers. There is no better way to make a positive impact on what laws are enacted or amended in our states than through grass roots involvement.

Through our publication, Land Line, and our official Web sites, www.landlinemag.com and www.ooida.com, members have many resources available at their fingertips to help stay informed of bills affecting them.

The sites’ visitors can access timely information on bills and other proposals being considered in “Legislative Watch.” While visiting landlinemag.com, issues identified as requiring members’ immediate attention are highlighted in “Action Alert.” At ooida.com, click on the various “Call to Action” alerts.

Also, Land Line’s March/April issue features the annual state legislative guide. The guide includes information on how to contact your state and U.S. lawmakers, numbers to call for bill information and legislative session dates. In addition, an expanded version of the magazine’s Legislative Watch is included with information on many states.

Be sure to take advantage of these resources. It is important that you frequently contact your elected officials and get to know their staff. You are their best resource to learn what issues are important to truckers.
