The Arkansas Senate has passed a bill that will allow the state to more easily build toll roads.

According to information on the Legislature’s Web site, SB218, sponsored by Sen. Dave Bisbee, R-Rogers, is designed to clarify the powers of the state highway commission to construct turnpikes and toll roads, allowing the board to act as the state’s toll authority and to issue revenue bonds to finance those roads.

The bill passed through the Senate Committee on Public Transportation on a unanimous vote last week, and passed the entire Senate with 35 votes Feb. 17. The bill has been sent to the House.

One project that could be aided is a proposed toll road near Bella Vista, AR, that would be built in cooperation with Missouri, according to a report in The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
