A suit brought against Volvo Trucks North America Inc. by several fleets claiming business losses due to defective trucks has resulted in a win for the trucking companies.

Michigan attorney Michael Doyle said there were some outstanding details preventing him from being specific, but confirmed that his trucker clients had won their case in a jury trial in late January.

Doyle said his clients were Michigan trucking companies Stone Transport Inc. and Amazon Transportation Inc. and Lady Hawk Inc., a Wisconsin corporation. The judgment was handed down by Judge David W. McKeague of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan (Grand Rapids). Judgment was entered for Stone Transport in the amount of $2.1 million and for Amazon/Lady Hawk in the amount of $1.6 million.

The case was filed Aug. 21, 2000. Reportedly, nearly 200 trucks were involved in the complaint.
