Diesel prices rise to $1.49

According to figures released by the Energy Department Jan. 27, the national average cost of diesel fuel per gallon this week rose to $1.492 from last week's average price of $1.48.

The highest prices this week are in New England at $1.608 and in the Central Atlantic region, where the price is $1.61. The dollar-fifty range continued on the East Coast, where the price is $1.526; on the West Coast, where the price is $1.543; and in California, where the price is $1.598.

The remaining regions' prices per gallon are as follows: $1.454 in the Rocky Mountain area; $1.463 on the Gulf Coast; $1.472 in the Midwest; and $1.483 in the Lower Atlantic states.

The Department of Energy reports the average price of self-serve fuel each week. Prices are based on a survey of 350 diesel service centers nationwide and include taxes.
