Michigan moves on I-69

Truckers probably will need to allow more time driving I-69 in eastern Michigan next summer.

The Michigan Transportation Department is making plans to fix more than five miles of the highway - from I-75 to Center Road - near Flint, The Flint Journal reported. It would be the first major facelift for that stretch of the road since it was built in the late 1960s.

MDOT is asking the Genesee County Metropolitan Alliance to authorize moving the project from 2005 to summer 2003 at its meeting Dec. 18, a change that is expected to be approved, according to the newspaper.

The agency wants to seal cracks, repair joints and grind down the concrete to create a fresh surface.

State officials want to move the work up on their calendar because bridge repairs in the area will already slow down traffic on I-69.
