Louisiana emergency personnel accused of theft

Emergency personnel called to the scene of an August tractor-trailer accident in Jennings, LA, allegedly swiped electronic equipment during the cleanup, The Advocate reported. The Jefferson Davis Parish District Attorney's Office will decide whether to pursue criminal charges in the case.

Louisiana State Police have completed their investigation into reports that firefighters and police officers helped themselves to laptop computers, televisions and other electronic equipment they cleared from the road.

An internal investigation resulted in the November firing of four firefighters and one police officer, the newspaper reported. Two volunteer firefighters quit and seven other firefighters and officers received letters of reprimand.

Four of the firefighters and a police officer reportedly have appealed their terminations before the Jennings Fire and Police Civil Service Board. An appeal hearing has also been set for a city police officer reprimanded for not reporting the incident.
