Truckin' for Kids truck drags set for October

| 9/30/2002

The 22nd annual Truckin' for Kids Truck Drags and Show & Shine contest will once again kick off the big rig drag racing season at the Los Angeles County Raceway on Oct. 5-6 in Palmdale, CA.

The event raises money for various children's charities. The show's primary beneficiary is the Children's Center of the Antelope Valley which aids abused children and provides counseling for the families of at-risk youth.

The annual truck drags promises participants two full days of family fun. Saturday brings out the pickup trucks for drag racing and a show and shine contest. There is a big rig light show on Saturday evening after a barbecue and entertainment.

The big rigs strut their stuff on Sunday with a show and shine contest, working competitions, truck drags and super truck drags. Vendor booths and special exhibitions will be set up for viewing on both days.

In 2001, Truckin' for Kids raised more than $40,000, and the all-volunteer committee has raised more than $500,000 since the event's inception. Admission is $10 daily or $15 for both days including pit pass. Children under 12 and handicapped get in free. For more information, visit
