Idled Kenworth plant auctions contents

| Friday, September 27, 2002

As a clear sign the idled Kenworth plant in Tukwila, WA, likely has produced its last truck, a three-day auction was held this week to sell off the plant's contents. Items auctioned off by a Canadian auctioneer included metal buildings, forklifts, racks, paint booths, presses, drills, lathes, cranes, tools and office equipment.

Truck production was officially stopped at the plant in 1996, although it was used for parts fabrication. In 1998, PACCAR resumed production of heavy-duty trucks and added small-truck production.

PACCAR later opened a new medium-duty manufacturing plant in Quebec, so the Tukwila plant was idled. In 2001, the plant produced off-highway trucks for export, but that work was shifted to a different Kenworth plant by year's end.
