Diesel prices rise for fifth consecutive week

Weekly retail on-highway diesel prices released Monday by the Energy Department show the national average cost of diesel increased from last week 's $1.396 to $1.414 this week. The price boost marks the fifth straight week the cost of diesel has risen.

The highest prices nationally are in California where the cost is $1.618 per gallon on average. The lowest average prices are in the Lower Atlantic region. Fuel there is $1.359 per gallon.

The remaining regions' price per gallon is: East Coast, $1.395; New England, $1.455; Central Atlantic, $1.467; Midwest, $1.399; Gulf Coast, $1.371; Rocky Mountain, $1.458; and West Coast, $1.557, respectively. The Department of Energy reports the average price of self-serve each week. Prices are based on a survey of 350 diesel service centers nationwide and include taxes.
