A man driving a farm tractor on a Missouri highway died Sept. 11 after a tractor-trailer struck him. The truck reportedly was hauling about 50 pounds of rocket catapult explosives for the military.

The John Deere tractor, pulling a bat-wing mower, reportedly was traveling about 25 mph in the right lane of U.S. 50 near Lone Jack when the truck hit the tractor from behind. The tractor and mower were destroyed.

The 23-year-old tractor driver was sitting in an open-air cab before he was thrown from his seat. His body was found next to the tractor. His name was not immediately released.

The truck's driver suffered moderate injuries. Her passenger suffered serious injuries.

The truck's load appeared to be undamaged, according to a published report. Officials, however, called for a bomb squad as a precaution.

Witness statements allege the trucker was not driving erratically. No citations were issued.
