Diesel prices continue to rise for fourth straight week

The weekly retail on-highway diesel prices released Monday by the Energy Department show the national average cost of diesel increased slightly from last week to $1.396. The price boost marks the fourth straight week the cost of diesel has risen.

The highest prices nationally are found in California. Diesel there costs $1.62 per gallon on average. The lowest average prices are in the Lower Atlantic region. Fuel there is $1.341 per gallon. The remaining regions' price per gallon is as follows: East Coast, $1.378; New England, $1.432; Central Atlantic, $1.455; Midwest, $1.381; Gulf Coast, $1.35; Rocky Mountain, $1.437; and West Coast, $1.548, respectively.

The Department of Energy reports the average price of self-serve each week. Prices are based on a survey of 350 diesel service centers nationwide and include taxes.
