Kenworth and Eaton are offering potential customers free extended
warranties and other discounts on tractors with lower-emission
engines from Cummins Inc. in an attempt to spark slumping sales.
For a limited
time only, Peterbilt and Eaton Corp. are offering "complimentary"
Eaton extended coverage on select transmissions for all new Peterbilt
heavy-duty conventional models equipped with engines certified
for the new October 2002 federal Environmental Protection Agency
-- which provides 100-percent parts and labor coverage for five
years or 500,000 miles -- is available for a limited time only
on vehicles spec'd for construction or general freight applications.
The offer includes Eaton 8LL, ALL, and 13-, 15- and 18-speed transmission
is also offering discounts on lightweight components, such as
Peterbilt's FLEX Air suspension and proprietary aluminum wheels,
and extended coverage for select Cummins engines, to help offset
customer concerns about the impact engines certified for the new
October 2002 EPA emissions standards may have on their operations.
