Paving projects close two freeways in Oregon this weekend

| 8/5/2002

The closures on connecting sections of I-5 and I-84 will start at 10 p.m. Friday and continue until 5 a.m. Monday. The work zones will be: Westbound I-84 from I-205 to I-5, a distance of 5.5 miles. (The eastbound lanes of I-84 will be repaved the following weekend, Aug. 10-11) and Northbound I-5 from the I-84 Interchange to the Fremont Bridge. That work will skip the following weekend and wrap up with a closure on the weekend of Aug. 17-18.

The detour for the I-5 work is via I-405. For the I-84 closures use Northeast Lombard Street (also known as Old Portland Highway), Northeast Sandy Boulevard and Southeast Powell Boulevard. To accommodate the detoured traffic, Portland has recalibrated traffic signals and asks that drivers not cut through residential neighborhoods.
