Six trucks owned by Mack Trucks Inc. were auctioned off raising $150,000 for the United Service Organizations (USO). The money was raised through a special auction of six Mack trucks that were loaned to New York City for use in the cleanup efforts at the World Trade Center site. Each of the six trucks equipped with a dump body has a commemorative emblem to recognize its six months of service at "Ground Zero."
Mack dealers from 13 states attended the auction. Everyone attending was given the opportunity to tour the site and hear about the cleanup from New York City Deputy Fire Commissioner Tom Fitzpatrick and NYC Department of Transportation Deputy Commissioner Leon Heyward.
The Honorable Edward A. Powell, president and CEO of the USO, spoke for his organization at the auction. "This exceptional donation will help the USO expand its efforts to serve military members and their families around the world," he said.
