Oklahoma updates I-40 truck detour

| Friday, June 14, 2002

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has changed the truck detour around the collapsed I-40 bridge in Webbers Falls. The highway is a major truck route that carries about 20,000 vehicles daily.

ODOT advises eastbound I-40 truck traffic to travel south from Warner on State Highway 2, then turn east on State Highway 9 continuing through Spiro to Fort Smith, AR. Westbound traffic should turn north on State Highway 10 at Gore, west on U.S. 64, then south on State Highway 100, rejoining I-40 east of the Muskogee Turnpike.

The final piece of the dangling bridge over the Arkansas River was removed Tuesday night. Completion of the salvage work allowed repair work to begin. The bridge is expected to reopen in mid-August.
