Truckdriver killed while securing load

A truckdriver was killed Tuesday along a highway near Kansas City, MO, while attempting to adjust his cargo of 6 tons of industrial-size glass plates.

Willard Pace of Joplin, MO, was pronounced dead at the scene. It was unclear how long Pace had been trapped beneath part of his cargo on the side of an Interstate 35 exit ramp near Kansas City, MO.

Pace reportedly radioed a partner around 9:30 a.m. and said the glass cargo was shifting on his flatbed. He pulled off the highway and apparently began adjusting the load on his own. Shortly before 10 a.m., the second driver arrived to find Pace's truck parked along the road with a large pile of glass beside the trailer. Price, who worked for Prime Inc. in Springfield, MO, was later found beneath the pile.
