On June 6, a Saline County jury will decide if a Georgia owner-operator will be punished for an August 2001 crash that took five lives. John Kendrix, of Moultrie, GA, was eastbound when his tractor-trailer crossed the Interstate 70 median near Sweet Springs, MO, and struck a pickup truck carrying five Kansas City, MO-area residents.
Killed in the accident were Ashley Curl of Overland Park, KS, Debra Sprouse, her two children Ashley and Zachary, and Scott Schrier, of Lee's Summit, MO. Kendrix was treated for injuries.
A Marshall hospital initially reported Kendrix tested positive for amphetamines, barbiturates and marijuana. Four days after the crash, the Missouri State Highway Patrol concluded Kendrix had no illegal or prescription drugs in his system.
The trial will take place in Saline County, MO.
