International Truck and Engine Corporation and Cummins Inc., have teamed up to offer International 9000i Series customers an exclusive ISX 435 HP ST2 (Smart Torque) rating. To help demonstrate the fuel economy capabilities of the International and Cummins package, Transportation Research Center Inc. (TRC, Inc.) an independent automotive proving ground, recently conducted a Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Type III recommended fuel consumption test, comparing an International 9200i and an International 9400i with Cummins' ISX 435 HP ST2 engine head-to-head against identical International tractors with the Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine.

The results revealed significant fuel economy improvement in the trucks using the Cummins ISX -- up to a 4.3 percent fuel economy advantage. International says this represents a potential customer savings of $3,200-$4,000 over the life of the vehicle.
