Interchange improvements in Detroit to close I-75 this weekend

| 4/5/2002

Bridge demolition will close Interstate 75 in downtown Detroit this weekend as part of a multi-million dollar interchange improvement project. I-75 will reopen to traffic at 5 a.m. Monday.

Construction crews will shut down I-75 in downtown Detroit at 9 p.m. Friday. The northbound lanes will close at US-12 (Michigan Avenue) while southbound drivers will be detoured onto the I-94 freeway. Crews will begin reconstructing the ramp from northbound I-75 to westbound I-94.

The posted detour for northbound drivers is northbound M-10 to eastbound M-8 (Davison Freeway) to northbound I-75. Southbound I-75 motorists will be detoured onto westbound I-94, to eastbound I-96, to southbound I-75.

The interchange improvement project is part of a plan to resurface both directions of I-94 between the I-96 interchange and Conner Avenue in Detroit. While interchange improvements will result in around-the-clock detours until the end of May, crews plan to resurface the freeway during off-peak hours.
